Re: [A/S] towing with a half ton

Some times I think that the best thing about the old Iron is most of it is
gone I reamber my old 1947 K5 International with its flat head 6 cyl motor It
would pull almost any thing if you used the creeper gear to start and reamber
rowing it up the hills with the gear shift lever. O yes you had to double
clutch it to make the shift. loaded heavy it would top the hills at about 2
mph.The other side of the coin was with a crescent wrench and vise grips one
could make most emergency repairs. I rember hearing a rod start to go Along way
from home checked which cylinder it was by shorting out spark plugs and
simply pulled the plug from the offending cylinder and made it home. slightly
noisy tho.
That said the reason I love the Dodge with the Cummins is that basic engine
has been around for probably 50 years up graded now and than I think it
might well be the engine used in the Cummins Diesel racer at Indianapolis Which
was on the pole in the 1948 or 1949 Race.
It has been used in tractors and industrial uses foreaver. So I guess if old
iron is updated now and then it is ok.
