In 1972, the Air Force was looking for the best paint to reflect sunlight in
Star Wars High Energy Laser project. A white asphalt paint (centerline
highway lane strip in some states) was 100% better reflector than aluminum
paint. We were trying to reduce the effect of thermal waves disrupting our
outdoor laser range experiments.
