[A/S] Acura as Tow Vehicle

Our thanks to everyone on the list who persuaded us
to give up on the idea of towing our A/S with a small
SUV. You'll be happy to hear that we got a great deal
on an F-150 Supercrew. With its longer wheelbase,
3.73 axle, and 9000 lb tow capacity there should be no
difficulty in safely towing the 23' Safari.

Now there is the question about what is recommended
for a hitch. The Hensley sounds like a great piece of
engineering but is probably expensive overcontrol with
our new rig.

The second question concerns safety & marketing.
Most every picture we saw, from Airstreams' brochures
to Internet sites, showed traveltrailers being towed
by SUVs. Salesmen we talked with before we found this
list said we would have no problem towing with an SUV,
provided we stayed generally within weight capacities.
How is there such a disconnect between their expert
(new buyers like ourselves would assume) opinion,
people experiencing deadly crashes, and all of your
long-term experience? Salesmen we can understand but
A/S themselves?

We'd appreciate any insight into hitch selection and
the SUV question.

Best wishes, Mark & Elana
