RE: [A/S] Towing a 30' - 31' Airstream Classic
Ron -
I was recently told by an executive board member of the WBCCI that Airstream
is no longer manufacturing the standard Classic travel trailer, except on
specific order from a customer thru an A/S dealer. But then I'd also been
under the impression (via various A/S promotional literature?) that all the
factory has done for years is produce only what the dealer's were ordering,
i.e. that the factory hasn't routinely produced any "spec" trailers (other
than design prototypes or custom trailers), and that the production line has
been swamped with back orders for a very long time. We're told that the
factory is so backlogged with orders for the more modern lines of trailers
such as the newer Safari's & CCD's that Classic trailers are no longer
routinely produced. And I hear A/S is actively looking for a second
manufacturing plant in the US.
I can only guess the high gasoline/diesel prices and demographics (the
market place) are having their effect.
