[A/S] To Polish or Not?

Good afternoon fellow Airstreamers,

We are currently restoring and rebuilding our '72 Overlander and are
closing in on the propect of polishing our baby.  We have heard from
so many people that it really gives you an incredible sense of
ownership and quality when it's polished.  However, we've heard from
many others that it will only last for a short time, and needs to be
re-polished every year or two?  Who's right?  After 200 or so hours of
work, will this beautiful mirror finish really only last a year or two?  

I'm sure some of you have been through this, what are your thoughts?
