It's a special sponge.  It's about half the size of a brick and a funny 
consistency, but it really does the job.  I haven't found anything 
better; take it from me, I have 5 dogs.  (Well, except the Dyson Animal 
vacuum, but you can buy an awful lot of those yellow sponges for that 
price! <g>)

You can also find the sponges sometimes at larger pet supply stores.

Because of the dog hair, I love my CCD's minimal fabric decor.  I cover 
the sofa with sheets color-coordinated with my throw rugs, and 
periodically do the dinette cushions with the yellow sponge or a good 
lint roller.  I also have a rubber thingee on a pole that I use to 
scrape up dog hair from the CCD's throw rugs when I don't have electric 
hookup. You can find those at places like Bed Bath and Beyond, too.
