I understand what you're saying but if you run a small amount of bleach( manuf 
recommends about a quarter cup) through or into a tank. If you just put it in the tank 
and drain the tank, then no. I use a quarter cup in 40 gals, pump it through the entire
 system long enough to  freshen the system. Stands in traps and doesn't hurt PVC so far 
as I know. It may be good for the gate seal in a huge amount or over a long period of 
time. The chemical tht we buy at CW is supposed to lubricate the valves. I guess it 
does. No the bleach deal is not an every other day thing. But when I start to detect a 
foul odor from my traps, something is going in there.
  Someone mentioned yeast. How long does it have to stay to do any good? Can you put it 
in there tonight and tomorrow morning it's done its job?
  Then there's the lingering chlorine smell.
