RE: [A/S] Gaggenau gas cooktop Counter top suggestion

Hunter,

I suggest you go for Corian. The product is heavy (bad news in a trailer)
but now duPont makes it in 1/4" thickness which if properly fabricated and
supported will work fine in an Airstream, and not be that heavy. Airstream
uses 1/4" Corian in some of its new trailers. (The standard 1/2" thick
material, typically used in kitchens and baths would be overkill.) Corian
doesn't stain, and scratches etc. can be sanded out. Major damage can be
repaired (cut out and new material glued in) without a trace - for all
practical purposes.) Also, it is stronger and less brittle than its
competitors, and the glue joints are stronger.

Many satisfaction surveys of different countertop materials have been done
for residential applications (Corian, other solid surface materials,
stainless steel, granite, marble, laminated plastic, butcher block, tile,
etc.) The answer to "would you install it again?" comes up with an
overwhelmingly positive vote for Corian - 90%+. The other materials have a
repeat choice mostly below 50%. No other ones come close to the Corian
score.

As a retired cabinetmaker (and solid surface fabricator) I have replaced all
of my countertops in my home (kitchen and baths) with Corian, except for one
bath which is Formica Surell. The Corian is far and away the better
material.
