10 hours by myself for my 23'.  Polishing is an addiction.  It is not
necessary at all.  The more you do it, the shiner your trailer becomes and
the shiner you think you need it.

Then when your kid runs into it with his bike, or you other kid wants to
*help* wash it with a 3M scouring pad, you have to come to grips with it!

It will hold it shine pretty well, depending on your proximity to salt water
like near the ocean, which will cause it to oxidize faster.  How fast, it's
hard to say.

Once a year go over is not too much to ask if you want to keep it up
reasonably well.  

It just personal preference.
