I'd just stick with using the golden. Much more reliable.
We have one too. Logan was with us last winter when we went to Louisiana and 
on the way back it was very cold one night in Kentucky. We had the electric 
heater on and he settled down on his favourite blankey beside the bed. 
During the night I got up and thought that since I was warm enough in the 
bed, that the heater could be turned off.

Until we turned the heater back on.

PS I think I'd be trying another dealer to check out your propane. That 
doesn't sound kosher to me.
