Very bad idea.  To just run any old gas appliance w/o having it checked.

Do you want to blow the whole thing up and you with it ?
Aside from anything else, you are setting a bad example to everyone.
Or maybe,if you are unlucky,the gas gods will make an example of you.

I implore you, have it checked by a gas serviceman.

There are all sorts of vital things that rust away, and who knows what 
critters live in there, blocking things.
