[A/S] hydroflame question

hi , i have a hydroflame heater @ 1956, and it seems to generate a 
smell/odor after running for awhile.  seems to work just fine with 
thermosat , pilot light etc.  just the smell,  it doesn't seem to be a 
gas smell either, its almost a stail kinda smell. --any ideas? james
