Unless you have a way to make the generator operate "in phase" with the 
shore power, it will have roughly the same effect on your air conditioner 
that your car's transmission would suffer by throwing it into reverse while 
traveling 30 miles an hour forward.

It might work once or twice, but would quickly ruin the air conditioner.
