Hi Bill,

I've towed with both. I towed a 21' trailer that weighed under 5,000# with a 
1/2 ton Suburban with a 3:42 rear end.   It did a fine job.

Then I got my current trailer, a 25' Classic.  It's very heavy. I drove it 
home three hours from Atlanta, through the Blue Ridge foothills.  No mountains, 
just foothills and the trailer was empty.

No stuff, no fluids etc....

The Suburban, a 5.7 V8, was struggling up the hills.  I was leading a parade 
of cars at the top of every one.

I sold the Suburban and got a diesel F-250 4X4. A '99 Superduty.

The truck pulls like a dream, doesn't break a sweat going up over 14,000 feet 
in the Rockies.  

That said, it's expensive.  The engine costs 4500.00 to 5000.00 more than a 
gas engine.

The oil changes are 60.00.

Diesel fuel isn't always less than gas.

It gets a little better mileage than gas, but it'll never make up the 
difference in cost.

It's all about the torque.

There is no way I would buy a dually.  You just flat don't need it.  Duallys 
are a bear to park in parking lots and tires cost enough when you have to buy 
4.  Buying 6 at once would be killer.

Most people who tow with duallies have heavy fifth wheels and need then for 
the pin weight.

So, with the weight of your trailer you don't *need* a diesel or a dually.  
If you want a diesel, by all means get one...but a 3/4 ton truck is more than 
enough.

Go for a crew cab......short bed.  You'll be glad you did <g>
