Re: [A/S] Spare tire

    Jack
I too usually travel short trips with no spare. But then we decided to
plan a trip to Yellowstone. To far to go with no spare. On my 1973
Ambassador there is no spare tire carrier, but the is a place for one.
After searching high-n-low for one I called an Airstream dealer, asked
him, gave him the trailer ID #, the next day he called back and said it
will ship from the factory. Cost me about $170.00 but well worth it.
Oh yeah, I tried faxing Tad Taylor since he has them listed for $75.00
used. Never heard from him even after 75 faxes. Any way, since I had the
new spare tire carrier I needed a spare tire. First I had to locate a rim.
Since mine are steel, I thought easy enough to find. How wrong I was.
Easy if I want to spend $100.00 plus shipping, and without a tire on it!
After going thru all the junk yards and tire/wheel shops, the internet
came thru. Found Low Cost Trailer Supplies, saw one that sounded right
but being skeptical at this point I called to make sure. They also faxed
over the dimensions on it. Everything was good right down to the 3.65
pilot hole. Next the tire, oh I put the rim on the trailer to check it
before I put a tire on it. This turned in to a major search too, several
years ago I bought some trailer tires and now all of a sudden you can't
find them any more. Ended up getting a Maxxis, looks good, took very
little weight to balance, one .25 weight, my Michelins on my truck
took more than that. But now I'm all set, except one problem. The wife
wants a new camper.
