  Safety chains keep your TT behind your TV in the event that your TT comes 
loose from your TV. If you did not have them your TT could move into another 
lane of traffic causing a serious accident. Also you could apply brakes to your 
TT if your electrical cord was still connected.
 
  Crossing your safety chains will not keep your Hensley hitch from hitting 
the pavement if your TT becomes disconnected. The chains are too long for that.
