I have heard reports that some of the GM receiver hitches have fallen apart. 
  This might be why some have suggested reinforcing the receivers.  I'd 
inspect for cracks before each outing to be on the safe side.  I started 
checking the hitch on my '01 2500hd to be on the safe side and haven't 
noticed anything yet.
