Re: [A/S] towing an Airstream off road
You know... that' was one of my favorite books ever. I read it as a
youngster, and finally got my hands on a used copy in good shape for my
bookshelf.
I am working on a project like the rigs that made that trip to be used
as an exploration base out west. Long-term boondocking capabilities, and
ruggedness are important. So is communication capability. Small is going
to be a good thing here.
The trails (what are commonly called "trails" on most western outings
are boulder strewn tracks best suited to jacked-up scraped-up modified
Jeeps), but there are an awful lot of backcountry destinations that
don't require that sort of vehicle to get to.
I am almost certain that the type of serious off-road boulder-strewn
trail that started this thread would be impassable for the 25-footer
described. But I have dragged my old '60 Tradewind over some rough
two-track trails in northern Michigan with no trouble. I did drive them
fully and scope out things first. Snapped off the offending low limb,
and moved the occasional log prior to making the trip with the rig.
