[A/S] Water filters in general

I've never used a water filter externally to handle
the entire water supply, but after listening to a few
folks who have had contaminated lines due to sand and
other debris, my thoughts now are that it won't be a
bad item to pursue.

My greatest concern though is lack of water pressure
and I have noted that filters seem to be rated from 1
gallon per minute to 3.5 gallons per minute. With
most hitting the 2-3 gallon range. I noticed WalMart
locally sells one for about $19 which I think is rated
for about 3 gallons. Anyone have any experience with
external filters that have good or bad thoughts. I
have an internal filter on the kitchen sink so we use
that water for drinking and cooking.
