Hello John, I agree with you and if I am not mistaken it says in the 
Airstream manual it is better to tow with a full tank of water. This 
is why they positioned the tank where they did. Why have a 50 gallon 
water tank and not use it. If I am not mistaken that is why they put 
a water tank in a camper. Richard in Southwest
