Re: [A/S] Towing capacity

Terry,
As you know, I also tow with an 87 Suburban with a 6.2 Diesel, that as you
pointed out is very slow in it's stock form. I learned that on our first
trip with the 59 Ambassador. I added a Banks Side Winder turbo several years
ago and it transformed it into a completely differant vehicle. The Banks
system was offered by GM as an option for the 6.2's in the late 80's and
early 90's until they had developed their own turbo. The later model
equipped 6.5 turbo diesels delivered less hp & torque than the Banks system
on the 6.2. I have been very pleased with the performance of my vehicle and
according to Banks, it has more HP & torque than the 454 gas engine offered
at that time and considerably better mileage. You might not want to tow your
32'er with this set up although it could probably do it quite well, you
would definately enjoy the experience with your 67 Safari. Although my 6.2
only has 36,000 miles on it, if the engine ever does give out, it can be
replaced with the 6.5 as a direct replacement and will also accept the Banks
system without any mods. The other beauty about the turbo is that the engine
runs cooler than stock, deliveres better mileage than stock and you don't
loose HP in the mountains.
This isn't for everyone but it works very well for me.
