Two ideas, Use mineral spirits and lots of paper towels. It won't hurt anything by way of the finish. Another idea, is warm water. If the black stuff is bug poop, it is full of sugar and warm water does a good job. Scrubbing will abrade the coating, so try to find something that will dissolve the black mess besides elbow grease.
