RE: [A/S] Urethane Foam Insulation

I can't give you any specifics, but I do have some suggestions and other
thoughts which might help.

First, Urethane insulation is a remarkably effective insulation.  A relative
who is a vinter used it on some stainless steel wine tanks [several thousand
gallon size which sit outdoors in Southern California].  The urethane
insulation results in virtually no change in the internal temperature of the
contents.

Second, improperly cured urethane foam emits toxic fumes - a serious problem
for an interior confined (and well sealed) space, which is what you will
have in a cold winter environment. However, this is not a problem if the
special two component spray gun (resin and catalyst) meters the two feeds in
the proper ratio.

As you have probably figured out by now, the plural component spray gun is
the key (the good ones are very expensive) and must be calibrated and
adjusted properly, and operated properly.  I would not consider this a do it
yourself project.  There are too many critical variables to master for the
job to come out right. The learning curve is not a favorable one for the do
it yourselfer.

Bottom line, find a firm that applies urethane foam (this is used
commercially in many industries - from the external space shuttle fuel tank
to wine storage tanks). That will most likely be best, and most cost
effective, route in the long run.
