Hi Claudette Sometimes there is an accumulation of debris (paper &/or #%&#) in the slot that the sliding valve seats into. This will prevent a complete seal and the water will drain out. While keeping the valve opened, use some sort of "L" shaped object to clean out the slot. Hope this helps. Noah
