[A/S] ammonia smell was RV Cover-- Alcoa Aluminium Coating

I discovered the 
strong smell of Ammonia was present and new from my reading in the 
past that it was my Refrigerator.



Before you buy new maybe you'd like to hear our experience.  When we
bought our '88 Limited, we are the 3rd owners, the fridge had the
ammonia smell, wouldn't cool and were told by several repair people we
needed a new coil.  
We chose to buy rebuilt coil there in Melbourne, FL where the trailer
was parked and the coil lasted only 4 months, was guaranteed for 6
months, but we were in California by that time and shipping was
outrageous to return and get a replacement.  We had a repair person
willing to do the job, but unwisely, we decided to buy a new fridge with
a warranty and installation and be done with repairs!! The price was
good with 2 extra years of warranty, and the installer was a lover of
Airstreams and did a good job at Camping world in San Bernardino.  The
new fridge 2820, recommended by Dometic for replacement doesn't fit well
in the space, and our oak door panels won't fit the new fridge!  And
like all newer things, it hasn't the manufacturing quality that the
older fridge had.  Cheap plastic bins, etc.  The fridge does work well,
but only because we fitted the outside compartment with baffles as
recommended by a repair person in Washington state.  Had we known about
the baffles when we replaced the coil, we would probably still be using
the original fridge.
