RE: [A/S] Hickory Interior Removing oil and wax

Mineral spirits is not a strong enough solvent.

Try Toluene. Available at larger paint stores or Sherwin Williams Industrial
Coatings Store.

Also, duPont Prep Sol at an auto body shop supply. Other brands PPG, R&M,
etc. automotive paint dealers (body shop suppliers) have "wax or Silicone
polish" removal solvents.

The trick is to apply it with a wet rag (wear nitrile rubber gloves) and
while still wet, wipe off with a clean dry rag. Repeat the process a couple
of times, each time using a different set of rags. You don't want to re
contaminate the surface.

Be sure to use the solvent system described above BEFORE sanding. Otherwise
you will "sand in" the wax and oil.

Hardware stores (bless their souls) are great, but finishing knowledge is
not one of their strongest areas - mostly because they often don't carry the
specialized products professional finishers need or use. The same is true of
the home centers, etc.
