My furnace has had some troubles as well, although I think it can get
by for a few more years of limited use.

From what I've been able to find out, the new Suburban furnaces are
the same size and basically the same design. In theory it seems easy
to swap out the old for a new.

The only difference with the new ones is that they use some different
electronics for the controls. I believe this means you need to
replace the thermostat as well. I'm not sure if the existing
thermostat wiring can be reused since I don't know how many
conductors are required for either.

As you might know, one of the biggest problems with Suburban furnaces
is that the control board is inside the unit and gets cooked over
time, requiring it's replacement for $100 or so. Dinasaur
Electronics makes a kit, really just a long wiring harness, that
enables you to mount the control board in an adjacent cabinet or
similar space. It might be worth it to install that kit on your new
furnace just to eliminate future problems.
