You can remove the arms with the awning rolled up..

Generally the tube won't be bent, only the arm in the tube seems to get 
slightly bent.

Leave the tube attached to the trailer and pull the arm out.

Sight down the length or lay it on a know flat surface to see where it's bent.

A slight bend will cause them to bind.  I straightened mine in the crook of 
a tree.  Not very scientific but it works.

I found that lubricating them causes dirt to stick to them.  Leaving them 
dry seems to be the way to go.
