this solar powered item might just be the ticket.

thanks jim and diasy for the suggestion and sources. i always forget to think
about solutions from the water world, which is always such a good source
for airstream issues. i need something nautical on my desk to remind me of
this connection.....maybe a brass weather station like the one airsteams used
to include.
