I looked very seriously at buying a Touareg after seeing the picture 
of it pulling a CCD in their brochure. The 7700 pound towing 
capacity was impressive and they had a V-10 diesel coming. I thought 
this combination would be perfect until I found out (after a little 
digging) that the tongue weight spec was only about 600 pounds. Not 
good when the tongue weight of an American TT can be up to 15% of the 
gross weight of the trailer. There were also issues with how the 
auto-leveling air suspension would respond to a weight distribution 
hitch. VW didn't have good answers to these issues so I walked 
away. Besides towing, the people on the Touareg list were having 
quite a few annoying teething problems that I would find intolerable 
in such a high-priced vehicle.
