Chuck,
I've had pretty good luck with my '99 Dodge 3/4T with the Cummins engine
also. My truck has 110.000 miles and only two problems out of warranty:
1) auxiliary fuel pump ~$600 (50/50 parts/labor)
2) throttle position sensor ~$600 (50/50 parts/labor)

I checked with AutoZone and their fuel pump was $170. 
Could your Dodge dealer be a close relative?
