Hi Dick,
I just completed a trip from Wilmington, NC to Ennis, MT and back. I have
the same rig as you. I noticed I got about 2 to 3 MPG more when I drove
across IL where the speed limit is 55 for all RV trailers. I also found I
got less MPG at higher elevation. I get 18 to 19 MPG running the flat roads
here in NC at just above sea level. That dropped to 15 to 17 MPG during the
month I ran around the Madison River valley that averages about 6000 feet
above sea level. I saw the same drop while towing, but figured it was more
the up and down the mountains that was causing the difference at first. I
then found the drop when driving around solo. The mileage went back to the
same 11 to 12 MPG when I got back in the low country towing the trailer at
65 MPH. I haven't had the truck out of the driveway sense we got back home,
so don't know if the solo mileage will return to the same as before the
trip. 
I am still learning about what effects this truck (my first Diesel). It only
has 12,600 miles on it after the 8000 mile trip out West. I did enjoy being
able to put the cruse on 65 and just enjoy without a lot of gear shifting
when I got in the hill country.
