Another consideration for some is us is the time. A trip of 1,000 miles 
at an average of 50 mph (a realistic average if one does not exceed 55 
mph) takes 20 hours. The same trip at an average of 70 mph takes 14.3 
hours. If driving down the road pulling your Airstream is your idea of a 
good way to spend your time -- as is the case for many of us -- then the 
extra 5.7 hours is not a significant consideration. But if one has 
limited time on a particular trip, it could be worth it., even at a cost 
of $9 (+/-) per hour saved.

Just another way to look at it.

Additionally, in California, where the speed limit is 55 with a trailer 
(a revenue enhancement measure), staying around 55 or so also means much 
less attention need be paid to the rear view mirror and the radar 
detector...
