[A/S] Re:McKesh whistling (was Proud new parents!!)

I discovered what was causing the whistling on my Suburban when the 
McKesh mirrors are installed - - it started after I had a bug 
deflector installed on the front - - didn't believe it but the 
Service Manager at my GM dealership immediately identified it as the 
culprit - - removed it and whistling disappeared and so did a good 
deal of the vibration in the mirrors.  Tried a bug deflector with a 
slightly different profile from another manufacturer and the 
whistling stayed away with only a modest increase in vibration.  My 
mirrors are of the older design with the the very flat back that 
date back to 1996 (with convex on both sides) - - I don't know if 
the newer design might be more senesitive to air currents (they 
certainly are more attractive than the older style IMHO).

I don't know whether it has any impact on the whistling and 
vibration issue, but I have noticed less vibration by replacing the 
webbing and pads every second or third season - - the parts are 
actually quite reasonably priced.  I started replacing the webbing 
to insure that it stays as clean as possible as I didn't want it to 
be grinding dirt into the clearcoat finish on my tow vehicle.  It 
seems to help in keeping everything in proper adjustment as well.
