well, first of all...my Land-Rover (in it's past life)had a
jotto desk...the origional basic generic version(which they
still make for inder $120.

it worked really well, but my friend who owned it at the
time, had an issue with his wife and the pass airbag. she
was afraid it would blow the whole shebang into her
face...anyway.. so Tom devised a bracket that was atached
to the center console and supported the actual desk from
the jotto-desk on this and the dash. it worked really well,
but you had to know the radio and a/c heater controls by
brail!  ;-)
somehow we managed to lose the telescoping portion or I
would be using teh desk with the computer and delprme
tripmate right now. what I do when I use it is sit it on
teh pass seat, and pull over and check, but when there on
center, it was perfect for either pass or driver to read
and follow.

right now, I just got a emai from jotto and will call back
to get teh missing piece, and try out, and if not will
re-design a new mount like he had fabbed up for the
previous off-road races, but better looking and easier to
disconnect when not neaded, and not leaving dash all mangy
when gone.

good luck! As a fabricator, I'd say go with it and build
yourself! it's really not that hard to do!
