Re: [A/S] Trauma on I-40
Hi Craig,
Thought I'd get back to the list about this. The recall on my tires was not
mandatory, it was done by Firestone and I don't qualify because they are not
EOM tires for my truck. If would have to have an Excursion to qualify.
I got no satisfaction from the Firestone store, the manager just kept flat
lying to me til I finally walked out and went to the Ford dealer.
I'll start at the beginning......yesterday morning I spoke to Firestone about
the damage to my truck.... it'll probably need a whole new quarter panel.
The guy was nice and is sending me the paperwork to file the claim. He told me
no matter what to hang on to the tire and take photos of the incident, which I
did yesterday on I-40. (I was upset, but not too upset to cover my bases)
He also said to go to a Firestone store and it will be up to the manager's
discretion but they should do something for me.
I went. The manager said he couldn't do anything about the price of tires.
The reason? Because I've spoken to Firestone and now it's in the legal
department.... that's a crock.
Then he said he'd sell me the new Michelins but comp me mounting and stems.
That would save me $50.00 ...big whoop. Total would be $836.00
I said I wanted to go have lunch and think about it....I drove up the road to
the Ford dealer who offered me no comps... and the price installed out the
door was $812.00.
So, the Firestone dealer was just BSing me.... he also tried to sell me more
Firestones saying that Firestone and Ford had kissed and made up and *all* the
Ford trucks at the dealership were sporting Firestones again.
Another lie. I looked at every truck for sale, the only Firestones on the lot
were on my truck. The F250s and 350s there had on Generals, Parellis and
Goodriches.
By then I was tired of the whole thing and just bought the tires from
Ford...... full price. But cheaper than the Firestone guy who was doing me a
*favor*.....
I know I could have gone to Sam's for less.... but Tenn has almost 10% sales
tax so they would be pricy anywhere in this state. What was I thinking having
a blowout in TN???
