David this topic has been a long running thread over
at airstreamforums.com also.  I've posted over at the
WBCCI forum also getting little if any response from
those folks.

The problem with the survey is that it was the
equivalent of preaching to the choir.  The folks they
needed to go after were the members who have left and
haven't renewed.  Especially those who had gotten the
free first year's membership.  

I know that some of our incoming officer's have gotten
the word and will be shaking up some future events. 
I'll be doing a no host rally in June 2006 for our
unit.  It will be a weekend event with no formal
structure other than a pot luck.  We are planning a
similar event in May and we are talking about doing
the same in July of the same year.  

That July event will really test us since I can
imagine the cries that we shouldn't be doing something
while the International is going on.  My answer is if
15 units go to International, the other 45 of us
should sit on our butts?  Not all of us have the time
or desire to take part in the International event.

2006 will be a make or break year for me.  If we don't
see any meaningful change or the local situation gets
ugly, we will be out on our own.  At this point I have
successfully put together 3 rallys in two years tied
to the Airstreamforums group that show me that there
are lots of folks in the midwest wanting to get
together without the formalities of the current
structure.  Our attendance is growing at each rally.
Just look at the RM VAC rally which has grown over the
last three years.  Attendance at this year's rally was
probably in the 60+ unit range.  

The interest is there with the younger crowd but the
organization is on a death spiral if they continue to
do things as they have done in the past.  Personally I
think there is room for the older folks who are
comfortable with the present structure and younger
crowd.  It's just a matter of recognizing that we have
two audiences to play to and organizing events for
each.
