RE: [A/S] Newbie with Question about a 1971 Sovereign

I have a '71 Safari. Most parts are readily replaceable. Like the air
conditioner, refrigerator, furnace, etc...

Other items like faucets and flooring, plumbing parts are easily obtainable
at the local home store.

Some special items like the front wing windows (the ones on either side of
the front), the main door lock, are available at a very high cost. The main
door lock for example goes for $700.00, although it too can be rebuilt for a
fraction of that.

The electrical system is pretty up to date. The charging system is
replaceable if it's still original. Not too expensive.

Axels are also available although expensive. You'd be looking at about
$1000 per axel if they need replaced. Check www.inlandrv.com to learn how
to check for this. They also have replacement parts but they are expensive.
Another place I like is www.oasisrv.com for those hard to find Airstream
parts.

Main thing to check for is floor wood rot. Especially near the front door,
windows, and bathroom area. Also rear end or tail droop. This is when you
push down on the rear bumper and it moves without the main body moving or it
separates from the main body. Means the frame has problems. Fixable, but
more costs involved.

Remember that you can use it and replace items as funds are available and
time permits.

Look at my link below for some of the projects I have had to do on my '71.

Good luck!
