RE: [A/S] Questions on 1979 propane tanks

I have 40 lb. Worthington aluminum tanks and the top is even with the bottom 
of the front window of my '77 Excella 500. The tanks are 32" tall to the 
top of the collar and have a tare weight of 19.5 pounds. One of the valves 
had been changed to the current OPD type sometime prior to me buying the 
trailer in 4/01 and I had the other changed last year at a local propane 
dealer with no problem. The valve change and tank fill cost me around $42 
best I remember. I quized them about the correct dip tube length because I 
have heard that some dealers had installed valves intended for steel tanks. 
They said that the aluminum tank is a little taller and they were aware of 
it. Everything has worked out fine. Some States will not fill up any tanks 
of 40 lbs. or less that do not have an OPD valve but numerous dealers in my 
area continue to fill them up as long as the tank looks like it is in good 
condition. I had mine changed out in case I went into another State and had 
to fill them.
