David,

I dont know about newer trailers, but my 1977 Sovereign has dual 
batteries and they are just hooked in parallel to the 12V "buss" in 
the trailer. I could run with just one if I wanted to. I would have 
to make sure that the unused battery connectors dont short out 
against each other or the trailer.

Obviously, your milage might vary...
