If it is Vulkem, you might try paint thinner. It won't hurt the plastic 
parts and it might disolve the caulk.

The Greay tank is something my '73 lacks too. So far I ahve only seen 
ways to divert the gray water into a low slung tank, or series of tubes. 
  I am wondering if I could make one just for the shower and another 
just for the kitchen, with valves on each. Maybe there is a better 
way... I too would like to hear it.
