Christopher,
I did what you are doing on my 1978 Ambassador.  It was very straightforward.  I only 
had to trim the corners of the roof...they were rounded and I squared them up.  The 
Fantastic Fan dropped right in.  I bought a flourescent fixture and mounted it aft of 
the Fantastic Fan.  I centered the light and mounted it crossways on the ceiling.  It 
looks just fine.
