This makes me wonder why none of the modern brake controllers have the old 
"Johnson bar" that the earlier hydraulic controllers I am used to have.

I like the idea of the newer controllers compensating for resistance changes 
during brake coil heating, and like the idea of a controller that actually 
measures the brake system hydraulic pressure, but where's the Johnson bar.

There have been quite a few times when on snow I have needed a proportional 
control on the brake to correct a slide. I am looking for a new brake 
controller, but don't know if I feel comfortable with not having a manual 
proportional control lever.

I'd be curious about the ideas of others on this.

Another thought... what was the brake controller is use on the tow vehicle? 
Was it one of the type that guesses about brake application and may have 
mis-applied the brakes on the sway motion, or was it a proportional control?
