Thanks for the advice.  I can visualize the technique and will try it 
over the next few days.  I might still remove the top inner dor skin 
to make some repairs on the window blind, but I won't touch the hinge 
bolts.

For the person with the Safari trailer, it seems like you could 
install a residencial style deadbolt just like the other trailers 
use.  This deadbolt is not installed in the door, but in the wall of 
the trailer next to the door.  It looks like a standard residential 
one with the bolt cut down to half thickness with a dremel tool or 
band saw.  This has to be done because the door is not thick enough 
to accept the full width bolt.  Then drill a series of holes in the 
edge of the door to recieve the bolt and file out into a rectangular 
slot.

I could borrow a digital camera and send you a few photos of mine if 
you want to see what it looks like.

One problem you might have is that the trailers equipped with a 
deadbolt probably have some sort of solid blocking in the wall so the 
inside and outside halves of the lock can be tightened together.  You 
might have to cut some wood pieces and wedge them inside the wall 
cavity around the perimeter of the hole you cut.
