The same in that they are both diesel.  The 18 wheelers have about the 
same horsepower 300-350 but twice the torque 1200 vs 500-600 and at a 
lower redline 2100-2200 vs. 5000.

I would guess that manual transmissions are used since there is no 
automatic available for 1200 lb-ft of torque.
