Hi Kathleen,

Have you checked the circuit breakers? I have used a Hott Rod for 3-4 years 
and except when lime deposits screwed it up mine has worked fine.

I know Aywood says not to use them, it might not be the Hott Rod that's the 
problem. Does the water heater work on propane?

The Hott Rod could have damaged the water heater itself.
