We have a 1978 Ambassador 28ft. that did not have a dedicated microwave space.  We 
ended up removing the overhead storage locker over the refrigerator and pantry and 
placed our microwave there, as well as our toaster and coffee maker.  We lost a bit 
of overhead storage but gained so much more by having the microwave, etc.above the 
frig/pantry area.  I took some walnut and built a one inch tall rail that goes the 
length of that area to keep things from sliding off during traveling.  The whole 
deal has really worked out well.
