If you want to paint your airstream you will need to use zink oxide 
to make the paint stick. We have a 1976 Argosy motorhome which we 
painted. aaaaait looks grest. We painted it gray with a red stripe 
and a metalic charcoal along the bottom 3'. It was very costly The 
paint and supplies alone where $800.00. We sanded the motorhome and 
coverd the windows etc.Then we paid about 400.00 to have it sprayed. 
We had estimates of 3000.00 to $6000.00 dollars if we didnt do the 
prep etc. That was about 20 years ago and it still looks great but 
the roof needs to be re-clearcoated as it was not sprayed properly 
and has started to peel. I would clearcoat an Airstream silvcer paint 
will never shine like a polished airstream and even if the paint 
would last longer the cost is to much. I would pay to have an extra 
coat of clear coat as it will prolong the life of the 
finish.
