You don't need to see the GPS unit. It just feeds information to your laptop
to put the "Green Arrow" on your map that is displayed on your laptop. The
green arrow will follow the road you ate driving on whether it is your
highlighted route or not. Your job is to make sure you keep the arrow on the
highlighted road of your route you have decided to travel. I do not find it
hard to glance over now and again to follow my progress on the computer
screen. With the map zoomed in fairly close, the arrow is pretty big on the
screen. I do all the navigating when I am traveling. Mary helps me look for
road signs when we are in a congested area, but that is about all she does.
The other neat thing about the map and GPS system you can tell instantly
when you have missed your turn. You can usually see what you need to do to
get back on your route before you get a long way off course. Your road
numbers on a strip of paper will not help in this case. I would think it
would be more necessary if traveling alone. You should not be changing your
route or messing with the computer while driving, but a glance at the screen
is not that hard to do. I made a little platform that plugs into the console
drink holder that holds my laptop in front of the radio area of my dash
board. The top of the screen is about even with the top of the dash, and the
screen is turned slightly toward my side of the truck. That makes it as easy
as glancing at the radio or clock on the dash in order to see the screen
with the big green arrow following along a road line on the map.
