[A/S] Cell phone for Internet

    I know many of you use your cell phones and laptop to access the 
internet while traveling.  I have Verizon and have seen the cables 
available at the Verizon store to connect a cell phone to a computer. 
These are sold to use the Verizon internet service. I wonder if they 
can be used to access my existing Internet Provider?  Do those of you 
who access the internet this way all use the propriatary cell phone 
internet service?  Thanks.
